Our First Podcast!

The time has finally come…for Writing the Pine’s very first podcast!  Yes, we are extremely lazy with our posting so we figured we’d give podcasting a shot.  It’s a new frontier we’re entering and hopefully you will be entertained by our thoughts.  For our first show, Rich (fivetool), Anderson, Gene (Final Word), and Dave talk [...]

HOW DARE YOU H.O.F. VOTERS!!!

I’m sorry to all of the 397 baseball writers that did vote for Roberto Alomar’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.  For the others that didn’t vote him in, HOW DARE YOU!!   Were you even watching the same game throughout the 90’s as me? Because the only reason he’s not in is because of a certain [...]

Grow a Pair and Grab Your Wang

I’m sorry Omar Minaya, but you’re willing to spend $66M on a 31 year old outfielder who plays sub-par defense in the black hole known as the Citi Field outfield but you’re seriously not interested my man Chien-Ming Wang?

Bitter Mets Fans

Our Jason Bay e-mail thread from yesterday got a little testy when Dave (a Mets fan) brought up Joe Mauer going to the Yankees.  What happened?  Well we just find out that Met fans are just plain bitter.  See for yourselves (and as usual, there is some strong language). Dave: yes i think mauer is going [...]

E-Mail Thread of the Day: Jason Bay to the Mets

We're all friends here at Writing the Pine. We e-mail each other constantly about everything whether it be about sports, work, going to Vegas, girls, whatever. There's always a thread going on. From time to time we'll post some of the threads because if we were as active on our blog as we were on our e-mail threads, then there wouldn't be days (weeks) that go by without a post. (Sorry, that'll be improved on in 2010. A WtP resolution if you will.) The big news of the day was Jason Bay signing with the New York Mets so here's an unedited reproduction of what was said on that...

Goodbye Godzilla

When I saw you for the last time in pinstripes, I watched you hit a home run in Game 6 of the 2009 World Series.  I was outside of the stadium by the Great Hall and saw you pull one off of Pedro. Today, you officially agreed to be the new DH for the Anaheim Angels [...]

Section 203: Fist Pump Edition

If you’ve been hiding under a rock the past week you might have missed the premiere of MTV’s “Jersey Shore.“  The word “awesome” cannot fully comprehend, encompass, and describe the show.  It is simply amazing.  The last time I’ve seen this many self-proclaimed guidos and guidettes?  The Yankees Championship parade. That said, after staying up to [...]

Young and the Rest(less)

- #1 Alabama v. #2 Texas – not taking anything away from the other undefeated teams (TCU, Cincinnati) I think the BCS did get it right by pitting these two teams against each other.  I know I can’t wait for the Shipley/Arenas matchup on the outside. Interesting fact: Other than LSU’s Justin Vincent in 2004, no [...]

A Major League Intern

So I decided in a previous post, that if I was going to Vegas, one of the three athletes I’d bring is Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Ross Ohlendorf, based on the notion that for a Vegas trip, you need a “brains of the operation” type person.  Apparently, someone else thinks having a that type of person [...]

BREAKING NEWS: Victor Zambrano’s mom traded for Scott Kazmir’s mom

According to this news report, former Major League pitcher Victor Zambrano’s mom was taken from her home in Venezuela by kidnappers. Fortunately, authorities were able to intervene and secure the release of Mrs. Zambrano by the non-waiver trade deadline.  While the conditions of the trade were not immediately available to the public, confidential sources inside the [...]
