Please donate to Peter's efforts!
We’ve all seen it and heard the stories of how sports heals. We’ve all watched the E:60 shows and Chris Connelly SportsCenter specials and read the E-Ticket articles about the impact sports has on our lives. Whether it be serving as inspiration to the handicapped and terminally ill, or bringing a nation together for healing after tragic events like 9/11, there is no question the power sports has on our society. This coming Saturday, I will be participating in an event hosted by Swim Across America, a non-profit organization that raises support and awareness for cancer research. I can’t deliver a Jimmy V-esque message, but I will say this: everybody who is reading this article knows somebody that has suffered from cancer. Whether it be family or friends, cancer in today’s world is all too common. It’s an ongoing battle that touches too many lives. I’m swimming this weekend not so much for the challenge of a one-mile swim in open waters, but for the opportunity to help a cause I truly believe can help. The message is simple: cancer is a battle we cannot afford to lose more lives to so please support my efforts and the cause of many around us in fighting this illness.

Editor’s Note: It is a great honor for us to be able to say our very own Hometown Hero is participating in Swim Across America. I used to swim and swimming one-mile is no joke and doing it in open waters where you can’t take a rest is unfathomable to this former swimmer. I used to take breaks after swimming 100 yards. So please, if you’re able, please donate and help spread the word! And for Peter to do this, wow. I’ve known the guy since 5th grade and I’d never expect him to do something like this. Here’s an excerpt from a conversation I had with him last night. (He doesn’t know I’m posting this by the way.)
