The Mets’ front office has recently stated that our prospects are untouchable and that we will likely not include them in a trade for a big name in the market. This isn’t a bad idea if our permanent roster wasn’t so injury-prone.. but that OBVIOUSLY isn’t the case!
Jose Reyes‘ leg injury is probably the only one that can be considered a fluke – he’s been pretty healthy throughout his career. The rest of the injuries this year have been expected. No one was shocked when Carlos Beltran went out with a knee injury. Carlos Delgado shares similarities with my great-grandmother in that they both are old as f*ck and need hip replacements. Angel Pagan, who added some depth to the depleted roster earlier this season, went out with a groin injury. He’s suffered through three injuries in the past four years (hamstring 2006, rib cage 2007, groin 2009). 19-year old Fernando Martinez, who has been for a while our top prospect but already has a veteran’s experience with injuries, was recently placed on the 15-day disabled list due to an inflammation in his knee. Bullpen aces J.J. Putz and Billy Wagner have been out for the majority of the season and the entire season, respectively.
You can call this injury-depleted season bad luck or coincidence, but it certainly isn’t surprising at all. A bunch of injury-prone players all got injured… WHAT A SHOCK!!! Look.. I love our prospects too. Especially Brad Holt and Jenrry Mejia. But why the F-Uck is F-Mart off the market? He’s still young and has speed and potential, but he looks like another injury-prone guy who is going to miss a whole bunch of games for us in the future. If we can package him for a solid player without a history of nagging injuries, it would bring some stability to our everyday lineup.
Mid-season has arrived and teams are starting to put up their high-income players on the market. We are one of the few teams still willing to spend and take on an additional few million dollars. So Omar Minaya, would you please pick up your phone and start making phone calls. This team is built to win championships, not to go home early every season.

considering that the mets are playing as a minor league team, they're doing a decent job of only being 5.5 games back. they should be fine when these guys come back, well fine enough to have a 10 game league then blow it by getting swept by the nationals and other weak NL teams
