Chien Ming-Wang is like a god here in Taiwan. Everywhere I go, I see Yankees hats or the number 40. I think we gotta add Taiwan to Yankee territory on the Basemap Map of the US.

well if he ends up with above 300, 24 hr's, 26 steals. i'd consider him to be a 4.5 tool player. also, shouldn't we compare him to other good players in the league? isn't some catcher playing for the twins batting a 380? some guy playing for the team with a red bird logo have 31 hr's already? didn't some guy i just traded away have 44 steals? what would you consider a minimum 5 tool stat?

when barry bonds was hitting 30 homers and stealing 30 bases thats the peak of his "five tool" days. so yeah, i'd say 12 homers is considered enough power, and 13 bases is enough speed.

.301 avg is more than adequate for someone to be hitting for average.

are u kidding? you don't have to win the triple crown and win the gold glove to be considered a five tool player, you just have to be above average or "good" in all 5 categories.

12 homeruns isn't hitting for power. yet to give him that full tool.
.301 batting average isn't so great in this day and age to give him 1 full tool.
13 SB, yes he can steal but he isn't ricky henderson either – so not a full tool
defensive skill (fielding ability) – solid but not a full tool
arm strength – 1 full tool

that all in all equals about 3.5-4

12 homeruns
13 for 13 SB
3rd most outfield assists in the major leagues (one of the best arms in the majors)

his defense is improving every game.. you have to understand that he is a converted pitcher.

he is MORE THAN SOLID in 4 of the 5 tools, without question.

well if a 5tool player is

hitting for avg
hitting for power
defensive skill
baserunning
arm strength

i would qualify him in the 3.5-4 tool range.

Dan,

contrary to your foolish statement,

1. he is batting .301 by midseason.. so he hits for average.
2. he has 13 stolen bases by midseason.. so he steals bases.
3. he has 12 homers by midseason.. so he hits for power.
4. he has 2 webgems and is a threat to baserunners.. so he has an arm.
5. his fielding may be a bit suspect but hes a converted pitcher for fucks sake.

so at best he's a 5 tool player, at the worst he's a 4.
