CrusWade, NBA

Let the CrusWade Begin!

Let the CrusWade Begin article

Dwyane Wade is many things. He’s an NBA World Champion, Finals MVP, five-time All-Star, and Olympic Gold Medalist. This past season he was the NBA scoring champion and a member of the All-NBA First Team. He is a stud on the court but since entering the league six years ago, he’s seen his star meteorically rise off of it.

In 2005, D-Wade was named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People. A year later he was GQ’s Best Dressed NBA Player and Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year. His recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live has taken YouTube by storm. He is one of Gatorade’s main endorsers, lead spokesman for the Converse brand, and the centerpiece of T-Mobile’s “Fave 5” campaign. In these commercials (and in the Kimmel skits), the Miami Heat superstar displays the charisma and charm that has made him one of the most popular figures in all of sports. Additionally, he exhibits surprising acting chops, stealing scenes in every piece he’s in. But aside from those commercials and the few bits on talk shows, Wade has rarely been able to show the world his talent. I don’t think the guy has ever guest starred on a TV show or even cameo’d in a movie. (What a shame.) So where would be the perfect place for him to showcase his skills?

Saturday Night Live of course.

In its 34-year history, SNL has frequently invited the most popular athletes to come on as hosts. Sometimes, this pairing has produced some of the best shows (Peyton Manning, Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, who are all Gatorade athletes like Wade) and other times the worst (Nancy Kerrigan, Lance Armstrong, OJ Simpson). But there is no doubt in my mind that D-Wade would make for one of the best athlete hosts in SNL history. He’s got the entire package: the charisma, the popularity, the looks, and most importantly, the acting talent. If you need more convincing, just watch this aforementioned bit from the Jimmy Kimmel Show:

How do we make this happen?

We go on a CrusWade.

We need to let Saturday Night Live and its creator, Lorne Michaels, how much we want to see this. We’ll be constantly posting reasons Dwyane Wade should host SNL. If you like what you see or are a D-Wade fan, leave a comment and show your support for the cause. Tell your friends or anyone else you think would want this and tell THEM to leave comments. The more comments we have, the more SNL will see how much the public is pining (pun intended) for Wade to host. It will probably be almost impossible for him to host this upcoming season, but he can host in the 2010-2011 season – which would also be the first season he could potentially be playing for another team (he can opt-out after the 09-10 season). So NEW YORK KNICKS FANS, YOU GUYS ESPECIALLY MIGHT WANT TO JOIN THE CRUSWADE AS THIS MAY HELP TO GET HIM TO SIGN WITH YOUR TEAM. You gotta show your love and what better way to do that then to let him know that you want him to be a part of something that’s as much New York as the Knicks are?

So if you’re a Dwyane Wade fan, SNL fan, Knicks fan, or just want to be entertained, join the CrusWade. Let’s get Dwyane Wade to host SNL.

Below we’ll keep a running list of reasons why D-Wade should host SNL.  We’ll add to it as we come up with more reasons.  If you want to tell us why YOU think he should host SNL then e-mail us or leave a comment below.  Maybe we’ll use your reason in the future.

yeah, wade would be awesome on SNL. I'm a lifelong heat fan, and the only reason he SHOULD be going to NY in 2010 is to host SNL or to play against the Knicks as a member of the HEAT.

SNL should be BEGGING a guy like Wade to host. I haven't watched SNL in a long time but I would def watch (or DVR) it if he was gonna be on. Maybe it would be a jumping off point for a movie career?? Come on, Lorne.

dwade would be a GREAT host – clearly talented, mass appeal (more than just sports fans), legit celebrity, and judging from the cousin sal clip, has a brand of humor that works well with others (obviously important for snl skits).

dwade in a macgruber skit – i'm laughing my ass off already….

DWade on SNL would be sick. That Manning United Way skit is one of my all time favorites. If there is another profesional athlete who can match Payton's charisma it's Wade. That Kimmel prank was a warmup.
