A Moment of Clarity, David Im

If you haven’t read about Colby Curtin by now, you should.  Don’t waste your time, just read now.  It’s an incredible story.  Colby had cancer and didn’t have much longer to live.  Her last wish was to watch the movie Up.  Unable to go to a movie theatre because of her health, a family friend called Pixar to see if they could bring a copy of the movie over.  When asked if she could hold on and wait to watch the movie, Colby responded,

“I’m ready (to die), but I’m going to wait for the movie.”

The story got to me after I read that line but there was more.  Colby couldn’t open her eyes and her mother had to describe the movie to her.  That’s when my eyes started to fill up with tears.  Despite not being able to actually see the movie, Colby said she enjoyed it.  I am not going to go into how we should be more grateful for what we have and all that.  But I will say that I wish I had Colby’s bravery.  All she wanted to do before she passed on was to watch a movie because “it is so cool.” I don’t think I’d be able to handle the situation as well as she did.

Anyway, with all the crap that’s going on in Iran, North Korea, and pretty much everywhere else in the world, it’s stories like this that are constant reminders of the good that’s left in the world.  Kudos to Pixar for making Colby’s dying wish come true.  Our prayers are with Colby’s familiy.
