A Moment of Clarity, HometownHero

Baseball has long served as moments between father and son. Whether its playing catch in the backyard, going to baseball games, or being your little league coach, it’s always been you and your pops. A sacred bond.

My father is the one that taught me the difference between a 4-seam fastball and a 2-seam, he kept preaching ” keep your eye on the ball” for my entire little league career. He took me to my first Yankee game, and drove me around for my travel league games.

So with my father recovering from surgery, and lying on his bed with tubes going in and out of his body. I flip to the Yankee game. Moments like these make you feel like the world has paused for a second, and you realize the essence of sports in our lives.

Father and sons, watching baseball. No words, no looks, no pain.

HometownHero is Writing the Pine's resident Al Bundy. Once a first-round draft pick in the Little Leagues, he now struggles to maintain a .250 batting average in his softball league. He also led his high school football team to its first victory in three seasons by rushing for two touchdowns and recording eight tackles, but has not accomplished anything significant since then. It is quite possible that in the foreseeable future, he may be seen selling shoes, slouching lazily on his couch, watching tv, with his hand down his pants.

I hope your pops recovers quickly, HTH. There's an unspoken bond between baseball and the relationship between father and son. Often at times, we take for granted that relationship until either it's too late or it's nearly taken away from us.

Makes me want to watch "Field of Dreams" this Father's Day weekend.
