Mr. Plaxico A. Burress is due in court today at the Manhattan Criminal Court Building located at 100 Centre Street.

No word yet if his appearance has been waived and only his attorney Benjamin Brafman will be present for today’s proceedings. Regardless, today’s courtdate will only provide an adjournment until September.

Ideally for Plax, he would like to get this issued settled as soon as possible between today’s court date and September’s adjournment date to have any shot at playing in the NFL this season.

No NFL team in their right mind will court the troubled, yet talented wide receiver if his legal proceedings prevent him from playing this season.

Beyond the immediate concerns for jail time and lack of offers, there’s also the issue of Commissioner Roger Goodell and the possibility of suspension for his off-the-field antics and negative publicity.

As Mr. Brafman will push for a plea of some sort (without jailtime) or a further adjournment of a possible trial until after this year’s NFL season, the District Attorney’s office will face public and political pressure not to show any special treatment to the NFL star. There have been calls from the Mayor’s office to throw the book at the NFL star under New York State’s strict handgun laws.

Needless to say, there will be a lot of NFL teams watching the situation closely to see if their receiving corps can be bolstered by the addition of a Super Bowl winning WR who has shown the ability to elevate the play of his team and cause matchup problems down the field.

Fivetoolplayer won a championship his first and only season playing little league baseball as a member of the "Richmond Learning Center." His pitiful attempt to play soccer (2 own-goals, and 300 orange slices eaten) are only overshadowed by his even more pitiful attempt to be humorous. An attempt that misses so badly - it evokes memories of trips to the free throw line during a short-lived intramural basketball career. (Career points : 2)
